June 3, 2014 at 2:00pm. At the Kingston VIA Rail station, 1800 John Counter Blvd, Kingston, ON K7M
(Kingston, ON) SirJohnA2015 and the acclaimed SALON Acting Company will partner once more with our friends from VIA Rail to provide Canadian rail riders a little piece of their own history this summer. Actors portraying John A. Macdonald and a host of real and imagined characters from the founding moments of our country will mingle with passengers on trips from Kingston to Halifax, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver. Stops at those stations from coast to coast will also feature performances inside VIA stations.
“Imagine sitting down to a meal in the dining car and being joined by Sir John A. What would you ask him?” offers Executive Producer, Jim Garrard. “This is just one part of our gift to Sir John A., for his 200th Birthday. Fanning out across the country helps us learn about what others are doing to mark this occasion.”
The SALON Acting Company has performed Sir John, Eh? The Road Show in schools, in the streets, and as part of Kingston’s award-winning Yellow Door campaign. As a complement to our renowned, historic Walks in Sir John A.’s Footsteps through Kingston, which begin auspiciously on Canada Day, the VIA Rail performances bring history to life through theatre, precisely the mission of SALON Theatre.
“These performers treat our history as entertainment--sometimes formal, often irreverent. People enter the world of Sir John A. through music, comedy, puppetry, tales of triumph, misdeeds and tragedy,” says Garrard. “There’s no better place to tell John A.’s story than on a train rolling through the provinces of the nation that John A. Macdonald linked together.”
Media and the public are invited to join us as we bid Bon Voyage! to Sir John A. at the Kingston Train Station on June 3rd at 2:00pm. Executive Producer Jim Garrard and our talented and charismatic players will be available for interviews and photos.
