On Tuesday July 16th, legendary broadcast journalist Steve Paikin, who is currently the anchor of TVO’s flagship current affairs program, The Agenda with Steve Paikin and is the recently named Chancellor of Laurentian University, came to Kingston to walk In Sir John A.’s Footsteps. Yesterday marked the third time Mr. Paikin has come to Kingston to help lead the walk alongside Commissioner Arthur Milnesand members of the SALON Acting Company. This time around, Mr. Paikin brought an extra special guest, his fatherLarry Paikin, who also entertained the crowd by sharing anecdotes about his son.

Approximately 50 tour participants, from Kingston and beyond, accompanied Mr. Paikin through the historic streets of downtown Kingston, visiting Sir John’s favourite haunts and hearing stories of his political successes and touching personal life. The SALON Acting Company provided sensational entertainment with songs and vignettes performed at various stops along the tour. Mr. Paikin delighted the crowd by sharing his own personal stories and providing insight on Sir John and Canadian Politics with a wisdom and humour that can only come from such an illustrious career in political journalism.

Mr. Paikin, who in 2012 was named the Queen’s Park journalist with the most Twitter influence, live-tweeted the entire tour. His main reason for doing so? Reaching young Canadians to encourage and inspire them to consider Sir John’s legacy as we approach the bicentennial in 2015.
We are very happy to share some of those tweets with you, as well as our favourite photos from the day. Scroll down to see our gallery and Twitter highlights. Our most heartfelt thanks goes to Steve Paikin for braving the heat, and delivering a stellar tour that will not be forgotten!
